We lived in the département of Puy-de-Dôme for 7 years, and I've spent significant amounts of time there every year since 1997.  Parisians think of it as a wild, uninteresting place -- but in fact it is one of the most beautiful corners of France, inhabited since there have been humans in Europe, at the crossroads of great events since the time of the Roman invasion of Gaul.
